Faculty Assembly
The Faculty Assembly is an elected, representative body of the College that regularly advises the President and the Provost on matters affecting the welfare of the university. Representatives are elected for three-year terms; approximately one-third of the members are elected each year. The Assembly meets monthly during the academic year.
The officers are the President, the Vice-President, and the Secretary, who serve one-year terms. The officers are members of the seven-person Executive Committee, which serves as the Faculty Liaison Committee to the Board of Visitors, the President of the College, and the Provost. The Faculty Assembly is governed by its Constitution and Bylaws. In performance of its duties, the Assembly receives the agendas of the Board of Visitors, reports of university-wide committees, and preliminary drafts of university budgets.
The Faculty Assembly the 20 faculty members represent seven constituencies: Arts & Sciences -- (1) Humanities, (2) Social Sciences, (3) Natural Sciences and the professional schools -- (4) Business, (5) Education, (6) Law and (7) Marine Science. There are five standing committees: Executive Committee; Liaison Committee to the BOV; Academic Affairs Committee; Faculty Affairs Committee; and Committee on Planning and Resources.
