Thermochemical properties of unusual organic and biological species

Background

We are interested in the thermochemical properties of unusual organic and biological species. Current projects include the study of the gas phase chemistry of non-protein amino acids, i.e., those amino acids that are not coded by DNA and characterization of entropy effects in the extended kinetic method. We are also interested in the thermochemical properties of reactive intermediates, such as carbenes and silylenes. The intrinsic chemistry of these species is studied using electrospray ionization coupled with a quadrupole ion trap mass spectrometer. In addition, these experimental studies are complemented by high-level ab initio and density functional theory calculations.
