The community surrounding William & Mary has always presented opportunities as well as obligations for the College. Like most universities, William & Mary serves by providing high-quality education for its students and by developing knowledge to support the economy. But the local role of the College differs in two fundamental respects: its legacy of leadership exercised through community initiatives and its commitment to public service evidenced by students, faculty and staff. Responses to WM 2010 affirmed our commitment to become an even more active partner with our surrounding community, and thereby to set an example for our students.
[We will] Work to provide an off-campus experience for each undergraduate to contribute the insight and understanding needed for leadership in the new global environment.
