The Weingartner Music Composition Contest
The objective of the competition is to compose an Anthem that will support the mission and spirit of the Weingartner Global Initiative Project at the College of William and Mary. This program seeks to support peace and conflict resolution throughout the world. The specific guidelines are listed below:
- Entries may include lyrics or be purely instrumental. In either case students may be inspired by the following words:
“United Students for the Preservation of Life Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness.”
- The Anthem should not exceed three minutes in duration
- The composition should include acoustic (orchestral) instruments but composers have the option of adding electronic instrumental background in addition to the acoustic part.
- The Anthem should be turned in as mp3 format and stored on a CD. Scores are encouraged but not required. Students are urged to use programs like Garage Band, Logic, Finale which can be accessed at the William and Mary Media Lab in Swem.
Prize: $500
All full-time undergraduate students at the College of William and Mary are eligible to apply.
Entry Deadline: 5:00pm, November 1, 2011
Entries must be turned in to the Charles Center no later than the above deadline.
Decisions will be announced by December 1, 2011.
