Donor-Sponsored Initiatives

Through campus and donor funding, the Charles Center is able to house a number of different programs and initiatives. Visit each program's page to learn more.

Center for Geospatial Analysis

The center for Geospatial Analysis was launched in 2008 with the assistance of a significant grant from the Andrew Mellon Foundation. Its goal is to integrate GIS across the William & Mary curriculum and to provide students and faculty with access to GIS hardware, software, courses, and consulting services. Read more.

English-Stonehouse Fellowship

The English Stonehouse Fellowship is made possible by the generosity of Cory English. It also honors the memory of his wife, Katchen Stonehouse. The award provides a stipend of $5,000 per year, for two years, for the English-Stonehouse Faculty Fellow; $5,000 per year, for two years, for the English-Stonehouse Student Fellows, and $1,000 per year for research-related expenses. Sharp Seminar collaboration with the Pulitzer Center

The Sharp Seminar, established with the generous gift from Anne and Barry Sharp, is a joint initiative between the Pulitzer Center and the College of William & Mary. It pairs Pulitzer Center-sponsored journalists with William & Mary students invited by faculty to apply to the program. The goal of the initiative is to provide students with the opportunity to learn how to communicate to a broad audience about topics that they have studied and care deeply about. Read more.

Weingartner Global Initiative

The Weingartner Global Initiative was initiated in 2008 thanks to the generosity of Werner Weingartner. The initiative creates a two-year term Professorship and funds two to six student research positions each year devoted to the student of crucial international policy issues. Read more.

William & Mary Global Film Festival

The Global Film Festival is presented by the College of William & Mary with the support of the Emery Reves Center for International Studies and the Roy R. Charles Center. Launched in 2008 to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Williamsburg Theater, the festival is held annually at the historic Kimball Theatre. Read more.
