CGA Funding Opportunities (2012-2015)

Faculty, student and staff funding is available from the Mellon Foundation to help integrate GIS into the W&M curriculum.  Current opportunities are listed below.  These funding opportunities expire in March 0f 2015.

CGA Teaching Fellows

The main objective of this program is to employ advanced undergraduates to make it possible to increase the number and quality of research opportunities that are available to students in GIS or GIS related courses.

Each of the  Teaching Fellows will receive $500 each.  These Teaching Fellows will help faculty add small-group or individual "research" experiences to GIS courses that are otherwise too large for this to be a possibility. These research experiences will be part of an established GIS course.

Each Faculty member will receive a $500 stipend. Faculty will have  control over the selection of the Teaching Fellows who work for them. Teaching Fellows will usually be advanced undergraduates in the appropriate major; honors students and students who have already done well in the course would be logical candidates. Teaching Fellows will be honored with recognition upon graduation, and, with accumulated success and visibility, the program will become a distinguished, and distinguishing, feature of William and Mary's undergraduate program

CGA Curriculum Fellows

The main objective of this program is to employ advanced undergraduates to make it possible to increase the number and quality of GIS opportunities that are available to students .

Each of the  Curriculum  Fellows will receive $500 each.  These Curriculum  Fellows will help faculty develop GIS modules or curriculum for use in their courses.   Typically faculty will utilize the CGA Curriculum Fellow in a semester when they are not teaching a course to prepare materials and strategies for including GIS in the designated course at the next offering.  Typically Curriculum Fellows will develop a 2-3  session GIS module for insertion into future course offerings.

Each faculty member will receive a $500 stipend. Faculty will have  control over the selection of the Curriculum Fellows who work for them or the  CGA can assign fellows based on need. GIS Research Funding

Students can apply for $500 (2 awards per semester) for undergraduate research in the GIS environment.  Typical awards will fund GIS data collection, GIS hardware and GIS software.  Consideration will be given for research inside other disciplines with a strong spatial component.
