This award honors retired William & Mary biology professor Dr. Bruce S. Grant, whose career was dedicated to the study and teaching of genetics and evolution. The Bruce Grant Award was conceived and made possible by several of his former students to recognize an undergraduate student of biology who is conducting or planning a research project with an evolutionary focus. The most important criteria used to select a recipient include the relevance of the study to an evolutionary problem and the scientific merit of the proposed study. Additional factors considered by the committee for this award are the feasibility of the proposed project as well as the feasibility of the student to complete the project. For the latter, the committee considers grade point average, knowledge of the subject matter, demonstrated motivation for research or other personal indicators that would suggest the likelihood of a successful project and a rewarding research experience for the student. Nominators should submit information on the extent of the student’s project(s), Honors info, details of publications, presentations at conferences, participation in the larger academic community, and awards of grant to fund their research. Nominations should be made in the spring semester.
