Works of the Studio Art faculty will be featured at the Muscarelle Museum of Art from through Oct. 25. This unique exhibition is a long-standing tradition at William & Mary, and a collaboration between the Art and Art History Department and the Muscarelle Museum of Art.
Full Description
At the Sadler Center, the Museum and the William and Mary Arts Collaborative will host, photographs of Andy Warhol's infamous Factory studio taken by renowned photographer Nat Finkelstein. The photographer spent more than two years with Andy Warhol in the 1960s, capturing various day-to-day activities ranging from Warhol and his assistants at work to live performances of the Velvet Underground, a rock band that Warhol managed. On October 14 at 6:00 PM in the Commonwealth Auditorium in the Sadler Center, Finkelstein will give a free, public talk about his experiences at The Factory.

Famed studio assistant Gerard Malanga was Warhol’s right-hand man during the height of production in the famous Factory. He will talk on his relationship with Andy Warhol and the Screen Test film portraits they produced together. Along with his talk, Malanga will also read from his own poetry projects and take audience questions.

Summary
Robin Kelsey is Shirley Carter Burden Professor of Photography and Director of Graduate Studies in the History of Art and Architecture Department at Harvard University. He is also a member of the Committee on Higher Degrees in the History of American Civilization and a Faculty Associate of the Center for the Environment. His book, Archive Style: Photographs and Illustrations for U.S. Surveys, 1850-1890, was published in 2007 by the University of California Press, and his book on photography and chance is scheduled to appear, also from UC Press, in 2010. With Blake Stimson, he co-edited a book entitled The Meaning of Photography, published by the Clark Art Institute and Yale University Press in 2008.
