Student Life

The Applied Science Department currently has over 50 graduate students with varying backgrounds and interests. Coursework, one-on-one meetings with faculty members, association with other graduate students, and seminars are all a part of an entering graduate student's experience. Advanced students help coordinate the seminar program and travel to present achievements in research. The most inventive of our students receive U.S. patents by the time they are awarded their degrees. The graduate student association, pizza seminars, and intramural sports provide casual settings for further involvement in campus life.

Applied Science students enjoy:

  • An academic program tailored to each student's needs. The coursework component of each student's curriculum is highly flexible and is planned individually with his or her faculty advisory committee.
  • Outstanding research opportunities in internationally recognized laboratories. Applied Science students perform their thesis research in the laboratories at William and Mary, Jefferson Lab, and NASA Langley.
  • Yearly stipends and full-tuition scholarships. The Research Assistant stipend is $22,008 plus tuition and health insurance.
  • A delightful location adjacent to historic Colonial Williamsburg
