Background

Joe received a BA from the University of Pennsylvania in Communications (1986), and an MA from Yale University in Social and Cultural Anthropology (1988). After a fifteen-year career as a journalist and editor based in Austin, Texas, Joe Roberts' vision of the promise of public archaeology motivated his return to the academic life. His area interests span the Caribbean region and the Atlantic seaboard with a special interest in the archaeology and history of Colonial and Federal-era Philadelphia.
