Background
Berek graduated from VCU in 2006 with a B.S. in Anthropology, with a focus on bioarchaeological research.  He interned with Cultural Resources, Inc. in 2005, which is where he began work with human remains.  He entered William and Mary's program in 2006, and after a leave of absence in 2008 to pursue other research agendas, he has returned to complete his Master's degree.  He is currently a research assistant with the American Indian Research Center.  For the AIRC, he has given lectures on the USS Stout and the USS Carl Vinson for Native American Heritage Month, and has assisted with research at Werowocomoco, podcasts of Native American interviews, and the NOVA production "Pocahontas Revealed." He will be working in the Institute for Historical Biology with research related materials.
