Why W&M?

They say you fall in love with the first college you visit, and the others carry a mild letdown after the exhilaration of that first university tour. For me, William & Mary was that first college. I grew up practically next door, in neighboring York County; William & Mary was always on the “college radar” even before I really understood what college was, certainly before I gave serious thought to where I wanted to go to school. But when I toured the College for the first time in my junior year, it grabbed hold of me and refused to let go. I can’t tell you what specifically attracted me to W&M on that first visit, but I found myself comparing all other colleges to it, using the Tribe as a standard that no other college ever really met. When I came back to visit in my senior year, I knew it was the right choice instantly, that my desire for the College was more than just the college tour version of a honeymoon period. William & Mary’s superior academics, excellent student body, and even beautiful scenery all speak for themselves; but the closeness and sense of community that exists between the students and faculty is, I believe, often understated. One truly has the sense that professors and staff care about the students, that they are trying to help you succeed. That constructive, collaborative environment is, in my opinion, the most incredible part of this truly phenomenal school.
