Art & Art History Department
Letter from the Chair
We have a new look. Hope you like it. We thought an online newsletter would better bring us to you-and you to us. During the past year, we have put effort into improving our web presence and it is still a work in progress. We plan to roll out news two or three times a year, so keep checking the website. Some of the things we thought we would do:
- Provide you with a place to post announcements of your shows, publications, and activities;
- Publish reminders of department activities, so if you are in the area, you can join us;
- Give you a better idea of student and faculty achievements as they happen.
Nikki McCormick
Elizabeth Mead
Art and Art History has changed. You will find the profiles of our two new colleagues: Nikki McCormick in drawing and two-dimensional art-she's also in charge of our web presence-and Elizabeth Mead in sculpture. We've tweaked the studio art curriculum to accommodate their new ideas for courses.

The 2006-2007 academic year brought a bounty of national and international recognition to our faculty. The College Art Association awarded Alan Wallach its outstanding teaching award. Sibel Zandi-Sayek received two research fellowships: The Aga Khan Fellowship for Islamic Studies at MIT and a NEH Fellowship for her project on the urban development of Izmir, the former Smyrna, Turkey. The Accademia delle Arti del Disegno in Florence inducted Miles Chappell into it membership.
We are also proud of our students. Bonnie Wilson, PBK, earned Highest Honors in Art History and she starts a two-year tour with the Peace Corps in Azerbaijan. Naomi Ocko will enter the Master of Architecture program at Columbia University and earned High Honors in Architectural Design. Amanda Stuckey earned Honors in Art History. Catherine Williams has a Fulbright to teach English in Indonesia and Samuel Maddox will teach English in Prague. Brian Kelley, who is featured on our website, will enter the MFA program at the University of Indiana-Bloomington. As more of our students get settled, we'll let you know what they are doing.
Keep in touch and stay tuned.
Best regards,
Barbara Watkinson, Chair
