Andrews Gallery

About the Gallery

The Andrews Gallery program located in Andrews Hall has featured anywhere from 8-12 exhibitions annually over the years. Since 1977 the College has supported an ongoing exhibition program with a part time exhibition coordinator and small exhibition budget that are indispensable. The program regularly features artists of regional, and national importance, along with regular exhibits of work by students and new faculty. Within the last few years numerous exhibitions exploring contemporary themes have been organized by the studio faculty, including: Contemporary Approaches to Drawing, From Abstraction to Representation, Plein-Aire Revisted, Images of Night, Functional Pottery, High Chroma, Drawings by Sculptures, Artists Collects, and Distinct Visions /Diverse Pursuits. The Art Gallery exhibits historically have often been complemented by gallery talks, lectures, and workshops.

Purpose and Importance
The exhibits augment our teaching program by providing a crucial role for nurturing artists and an art audience for current art. The faculty organized exhibitions present a balanced calendar showcasing quality work in the various studio areas taught at the College. The program also creates an opportunity to have lectures and workshops that historically have accompanied many of the shows. Consequently it is a pedagogic tool where students experience and gain, first hand, insight from contact with serious art (one can not really find any quality art program without a corresponding quality exhibition program). The Gallery exhibitions also create a vital link between our department faculty, our students, and a small but loyal group of art devotees on campus and in the community. Additionally, the gallery plays a unique role in regard to the department's purpose to introduce visual culture and opportunities for aesthetic enrichment and pleasure to the diverse community of non concentrators who take classes in the Art and Art History Department.
