Why did you choose to attend William & Mary?

Coming from Atlanta, GA, I had not initially heard of W&M. It was one of the last schools I toured, but I immediately felt at home while visiting this welcoming community and beautiful campus. During my tour, I specifically remember students climbing trees around the Sunken Garden, a capella groups serenading us, and discussing with my tour guide the opportunity to take ballroom dance as an elective class. Now as a student, it's funny thinking back on that tour since students really do climb trees and swing in hammocks along the Sunky G's (W&M slang for the Sunken Garden). A capella groups also perform at the Wren Building every month, and I took ballroom dance last year. I'm so happy my dad signed me up to come on a tour here all those years ago.

Why did you choose to attend W&M?

I chose William & Mary for its sense of community. When I first stepped onto campus, I could see and feel how much the students and faculty really cared about you as an individual. Knowing that this would be a place where I wouldn’t be lost in the crowd, I knew that I could grow and succeed here. To this day, I do not regret choosing to attend William & Mary.

Why did you choose to attend William & Mary?

There are many reasons why I chose W&M, but the main reason is that everyone has always been incredibly supportive throughout my W&M journey. As an immigrant and first generation college student, college can seem pretty daunting. However, I've found that whether it's through Residence Life as a Residence Assistant, at the Admission Office as a Multicultural Recruitment Intern, in the D.C. office trying to figure out my career, or in the cadaver lab as part of my academic curriculum, everyone has continuously encouraged me. As a result of this support, from students, faculty and staff members, and alumni, I have been a part of many extraordinary experiences at William & Mary.

Through the William & Mary D.C. Summer Institute program, I spent last summer living and studying in D.C while also pursuing an internship. I interned for the Dream Project, which assists undocumented students in pursuing higher education through scholarships, mentoring, advocacy, and family engagement. Lastly, while in D.C I had the wonderful opportunity to shadow at a physical therapy clinic where I found my passion and love for women's health. Being a part of the D.C. program was an experience I will never forget and I strongly encourage everyone to do it!

Why did you choose to attend W&M?

It was a tough choice for me, but it came down to how welcomed I felt both on and off campus. Students reached out to me via e-mail, phone, radio (yes, radio), and in person to congratulate me on my acceptance and to offer their insight and support. I have continued to feel that warmth and encouragement over the past three years and I know that I could not have made a better college decision!

Why did you choose to attend William & Mary?

I chose to attend W&M because of the people. The community fostered by not only the students, but also the academic faculty as well as the college staff is one to be admired. Everyday, I relish the opportunity to interact with so many driven, intelligent and kind individuals. One of my favorite quotes is, “You show me your friends, and I’ll show you your character." By that standard, coming to W&M was a no brainer for me.

Why did you choose to attend W&M?

I truly believe that William & Mary has shaped me into the individual that I am today. There are many reasons to come to William and Mary that can be shown in statistics, from our student to professor ratio to our alumni networking. When I was applying to colleges I knew that I wanted to go to a college that would push me to be better and that was one of the main reasons I chose William & Mary. At the end of campus tours that I give, I don’t really talk about “why I chose to go to William & Mary," but instead I focus on “why I chose to stay," and it was because of the community. From late night Wawa runs with my own freshman hall to saying hello to friends when walking to class, I am constantly surrounded by people who genuinely care. College is full of ups and downs and it has been this community that has been there with me through it all. The advice that I give prospective students is to visit colleges and observe. Remember how the students interacted with each other and how you felt while walking around campus. College becomes your home away from home and William & Mary has most definitely become my second home.

What is your go to Cheese Shop order?

Baked ham, french bread, mesclun greens, HOUSE DRESSING <3

FUN FACT:

In high school I used to make these really embarrassing music videos where I would lip sync to popular songs. Once I came to college I tried to leave the videos in the past, but some of my friends found them and started posting them on my Facebook. So don't add me on Facebook :) After my tour one day a mom came up to me and said that she and her daughter had seen my videos.....I was in literal disbelief.

Why did you choose to attend W&M?

I committed to William & Mary on Day of Admitted Students (DFAS). My mother and I separated to explore campus. As I sat in the various sessions and talked to some current students, I sensed a unique vibe that I had not felt on any of the other campuses I had visited. Everyone was full of passion and completely comfortable being themselves. By the time I met back with my mom, we had both decided on our own that this was the place for me. We were right.

Why did you choose to attend William & Mary?

My parents got engaged at the Williamsburg Inn on a visit to see my great aunt and uncle who retired in Williamsburg. Therefore, Colonial Williamsburg was a popular April vacation destination for my family. There was something for everyone—golf for my dad, history for my mom, and Busch Gardens for myself and my siblings. When I was touring colleges, William & Mary stood out as having a strong business school uniquely positioned within a renowned liberal arts education. Additionally, I believe William & Mary’s size is a sort of Goldilocks situation. It's not too big, it's not too small, it’s just right. It came as an added bonus that I have a family connection to Williamsburg, especially since I’m 600 miles from home. Last year, I was even able to attend my great aunt’s 100th birthday party!

Why did you choose to attend William & Mary?

I loved the personal attention I received and the community aspect I felt even as a visiting student, and thought that this would be reflective of my time here. The interview was the most fun interview I had done during the whole college search process. I felt that my interviewer really wanted to get to know me as a person. I felt incredibly valued before even stepping foot on campus as a student, and I can't say enough how true that gut feeling proved to be.

Why did you choose to attend William & Mary?

I chose to attend W&M because of the location, specifically its proximity to Colonial Williamsburg (CW). I fell in love with Williamsburg in the 2nd grade when my family visited CW. On that trip, when my parents mentioned the nearby College of William & Mary, I boldly announced that I was going to go to college there. I stood by that decision all through middle and high school as I researched more into W&M's incredible academics, student to professor ratio, and focus on integrating courses under the COLL curriculum. In short, I chose William & Mary because it is beautiful on the outside and empowering within.

Why did you choose to attend William & Mary?

I chose W&M because I wanted to go to a school that matched my academic and athletic aspirations. I also chose W&M because the athletes here are so involved in the community, and based on some of the other schools I visited, that was not always the case.

FUN FACT:

I am actually not a big fan of Cheese Shop. Blasphemous, I know!

Major: Government and English
On-Campus Involvements: Tribe Ambassador within the Admission Office; Member of a music-jamming club (I play in a band back in Dallas!); running, snowboarding, and mountain climbing
Why did you choose to attend William & Mary?

I chose W&M for a couple of reasons. First, I wanted to challenge myself and get out of Dallas (and Texas for that matter) for college. William & Mary is a great school that would allow me to expand my horizons outside of Texas. Second, I went to high school in a racially and economically diverse area of Dallas, so I was looking for a school that would also have a diverse student population. William & Mary very much had the type of campus community I was looking for.

Roast Beef and Swiss. A classic combo.
