Arnie Preib, the College’s Special Diets Chef, is 2012’s first Toasted by Admission Award recipient. In the words of Dean of Admission and Associate Provost for Enrollment Henry Broaddus, “this is one of the worthiest examples of what we had in mind when Toasted by Admission started.”
When prospective student Delaney Burman and her mother visited campus this fall, she stopped by the Commons Dining Hall and inquired about vegan dining options. Without any prior appointment, and likely taking a break from his busy day, Preib made Burman and her mother a vegan meal on the spot. Burman took the time to email the admission office after the encounter to compliment Preib on his hospitality, and his cooking.
Jennifer Scott nominated Preib for January’s Toasted by Admission Award. In pitching her nomination to the entire admission staff, Scott wrote, “Arnie’s willingness to provide such an integral experience for a prospective student seeking to better understand whether the W&M community was the right fit for her impacted her tremendously and is an example of the kind of committed supportive staff we have here. I’m proud that he is an extension of our office and appreciative that he helped us provide her an exceptional campus visit.” Due in part to Preib’s hospitality, Burman applied to W&M Early Decision and was admitted. She will join the Class of 2016 this fall.
To celebrate Preib’s generosity and above-and-beyond efforts, the Office of Undergraduate Admission will treat him to lunch in February.
