Steve Seachrist, Director of International Students, Scholars and Programs for the Reves Center for International Studies, received the May 2011 "Toasted by Admission" award. Seachrist started his work at W&M as the Assistant Director for International Students, Scholars and Programs in 2004 and was promoted to his current position in 2011. In his position, Seachrist oversees visa-related services for all international students. Along with his staff, Seachrist helps incoming students and faculty secure the documentation needed to come to the College.
Bill Boyd, who liaisons with international applicants for the admission office, nominated Seachrist for the award. "Throughout April and May, Steve has prepared 74 I-20 forms (a record number for enrolling undergraduates) to send to international students who have deposited and who need to secure an F1 visa to come in August," wrote Boyd in nominating Seachrist. "He also communicates with each one by email to answer any questions they have about securing a student visa. His calm demeanor helps many applicants who are anxious about the entire process."
This year W&M had a record number of international applicants and enrolling international students. Thanks in large part to Seachrist's efforts, these students have a smooth transition to W&M. In addition to being treated to an after-work get together at Berrett's, Seachrist was the first to receive honorary admission to W&M and the accompanying admit pack and honorary admission letter.
