Ben Boone

Ben Boone ’07 M.Ed. ’09 was the “Toasted By Admission” award recipient for July 2011.  Ben Boone

Boone, who works for the dean of students office, specifically focusing on transfer-student initiatives, has liaised with the admission office for a number of years.

Boone was nominated by Associate Dean of Admission Kim Van Deusen, and selected by a vote of the undergraduate admission staff.  In her nomination of Boone, Van Deusen told the admission staff, “Ben Boone has been a tremendous asset to the Office of Admission and to transfer students this year. In tandem with our office, he has helped William & Mary create a smooth transition for entering spring and fall transfers. Ben helped with our five prospective transfer days throughout the year by moderating the student/faculty panel and being available for questions from prospective students and families."

“In addition, Ben assisted with our day for admitted transfer students which is a day-long program held on a Saturday. Ben’s presence didn’t just help me and my sanity during these programs, but it allowed transfer students to meet Ben early in the process so they already had a point of contact at the college when they joined the Tribe. With Ben’s help, I was able to create a warm, welcoming vibe for the prospective and enrolling transfer students. Thanks, Ben. You rock!”

To celebrate Boone’s achievement and contributions to the admission office, he was treated by its staff to an after-work gathering at Berrett’s in late July. There he was awarded the traditional honorary admission and complimentary admit pack that is bestowed upon all “Toasted by Admission” winner (it mirrors the acceptance letter and mailing sent to all newly admitted students).

Boone is the first Toasted by Admission nominee to have been granted both actual and honorary admission (first as a early decision applicant in 2002, again as an M.Ed. candidate in 2007 and finally as the "Toasted by Admission" winner in July 2011 ), so he is the first to receive both actual and honorary admission to the College (Jesse Windley '97 received the "Toasted by Admission" award in March 2011 before the honorary admission status was conferred with the award).
