Is there a supplement to the application?

W&M requires a one page supplement to the common application. The Supplement includes a prompt for an Optional Submission. The Optional Submission is an opportunity for the applicant to express his/herself through written or artistic work. The goal is to give the Admission Committee more familiarity with the applicant and their potential contribution to the campus community.

Do you offer Early Decision/Early Action?

W&M does offer an Early Decision program. This is a binding program whereby students who apply by the November 1 deadline and who indicate that they are applying Early Decision are making a commitment that, if accepted, they will attend W&M. One should apply Early Decision if W&M is his/her first choice school. W&M does not offer Early Action.

What happens if I am not accepted in Early Decision?

If one is not accepted during Early Decision, he/she may be either deferred or denied. Some students will be deferred and automatically reconsidered during the regular decision admission process; they are encouraged to proceed with applications to other colleges. Students who are not competitive in our applicant pool will be denied admission at that time.

Does Early Decision disadvantage me for scholarship/financial aid consideration?

No, applying for Early Decision will not put you at a disadvantage for scholarship consideration or financial aid opportunities. However, award recipients will not be named until the spring after we have reviewed the entire applicant pool. If receiving scholarships or the ability to compare financial aid packages is integral to your final college choice, then applying early decision may not be the best option for you. To find out how to apply for financial aid, please visit our financial aid website.
