Deferred Enrollment Students

Students who are offered admission to the William & Mary freshman class or to the St Andrews William & Mary Joint Degree Programme may request a deferral of their enrollment for one year by notifying the Senior Associate Dean of Admission [[tawolfe,Tim Wolfe]] of their intentions in writing. These requests for a gap year will be considered on a case-by-case basis and generally will be approved if they indicate thoughtful intent to spend the gap year in a way that will facilitate personal growth.

Those who are approved for a gap year still must submit an enrollment deposit and must commit to enrolling the following fall. Furthermore, they must submit a Re-Activate Admission Offer form no later than November 1 of the calendar year in which they were admitted. Students may not enroll as a degree-seeking candidate at any other institution during their gap year, and students must still submit a final high school transcript at the end of the academic year in which they were first admitted. Their admission remains contingent upon continuing to meet high standards of academic performance and personal conduct throughout the gap year.

Students admitted during Early Decision, students admitted from the waitlist, or students admitted as transfers are ineligible for deferred enrollment.
