Summer School
The summer sessions at W&M are considered to be part of the previous academic year. Thus, summer aid eligibility is based on the FAFSA for the prior year. In addition to the FAFSA, we require that you complete the Summer Financial Aid Application - pdf (available at the end of the spring semester), which signals to us that you are interested in aid. Please complete and return this form after registering for all desired summer classes.
Stafford Loans for the summer are available only for students who have not already used their full eligibility during the prior school year. For example, a junior who received a $5500 Stafford Loan during the regular award year would have no summer Stafford eligibility. If the student had borrowed only $4500, however, $1000 would still be available for the summer. Students who have used their full Stafford amounts may be eligible to borrow private educational loans. A PLUS Loan, which is in the parent's name, may be available for dependent undergraduates. You may also apply for a private loan.
Similar provisions apply to the Pell Grant Program. If you have already used your full Pell eligibility during the regular academic year, you will not be able to receive any Pell for the summer. This applies even if you are graduating at the end of the summer.
