The summer sessions at W&M are considered to be part of the previous academic year. Thus, summer aid eligibility is based on the FAFSA for the prior year. In addition to the FAFSA, we require that you complete the Summer Financial Aid Application (available mid March), which signals to us that you are interested in aid. Please complete and return this form after registering for all desired summer classes. The earlier we get your form, the more quickly you will know what aid you have available to you for the summer.
Direct Subsidized/Direct Unsubsidized Loans for the summer are available only for students who have not already used their full eligibility during the prior school year. For example, a junior who received a $5500 direct loan during the regular award year would have no summer direct sub/unsub loan eligibility. If the student had borrowed only $4500, however, $1000 would still be available for the summer. Students who have used their full direct sub/unsub loan amounts may be eligible to borrow private educational loans. A PLUS Loan, which is in the parent's name, may be available for dependent undergraduates. You may also apply for a private loan.
Similar provisions apply to the Pell Grant Program. Eligibility will be based on your 2014-15 FAFSA. Year-round Pell grants are not available; if you have used your full eligibility during the fall and spring, you will not have any eligibility remaining for the summer.
