How to Apply for Aid

Financial aid can help make attending W&M a reality

All students must meet the eligibility requirements and fill out either the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or the Virginia Alternative State Aid (VASA) application. You can estimate your costs using our net price calculators.

Although the application process is similar for most students, we have tailored guidance for your student status and enrollment intentions.

Review Eligibility Requirements

Eligibility for federal financial aid is determined each year by completing the FAFSA or the Virginia Alternative State Aid (VASA) application.

Calculate Your Financial Need

W&M Cost of Attendance – Expected Family Contribution (EFC) – Outside Scholarships/Additional Resources

Financial need will be determined using the estimated cost of two full-time semesters at W&M (Cost of Attendance) and subtracting the expected family contribution (as calculated by the FAFSA or VASA) along with any outside scholarships or additional resources.

Need-based financial aid includes grants, need-based scholarships, federal Direct Subsidized loans and federal work-study. These funding sources are required to fit within a student’s financial need.
