Full Description
Unfortunately, companies exist to try to get college students to pay for their financial aid, particularly scholarships. They may send mail or
email notifications to students and parents requesting money in
order to process financial aid for the upcoming academic year. This
is NOT a request from the Department of Education or from the
College. The companies are using logos that look very much like the
U.S. Department of Education logo, email “reports” that look very
much like the FAFSA Student Aid Report, use telephone numbers
very similar to FSA’s toll free number, and use terminology (such
as the “Student Aid Profile Form”) that is very misleading. The College does now require the CSS Profile for entering students, which does incur a fee, but that is the only time you should pay. If you ever have any questions regarding the validity of a request, please contact our office directly at 757-221-2420 or aid@wm.edu. There is also a fact sheet available at FSA (pdf).
