Monica Streifer, Visiting Assistant Professor of Italian Studies, earned her Ph.D. in Italian from the University of California, Los Angeles in 2016. She completed her undergraduate work in European Studies at Scripps College in Claremont, California. Before coming to William & Mary, she taught at the University of California, Riverside and at UCLA. Her research interests include modern and contemporary Italian literature and theater; film and performance studies; and gender studies. Her scholarship also encompasses Renaissance and Baroque drama and Jewish identity and culture in Italy. She has published articles on the plays of Dacia Maraini and Anna Banti in California Italian Studies, and is currently working on a book that tracks theater and performance as forms of feminist political engagement in twentieth-century Italy. She enjoys teaching courses on Italian literature, language, cinema, and cultural studies at all levels. At William & Mary, she will be teaching elementary Italian (101 and 102), an introduction to Italian Cinema and a course on modern Italian literature.
