Background

Wamae Muriuki, Visiting Instructor of Religious Studies, received his Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Comparative Studies at the Ohio State University, with a focus on the religious traditions of Japan.  His research interests include the Pure Land, Zen and esoteric traditions of Japanese Buddhism, Japanese religions, phenomenology of religion, and theories of affect, and he has taught classes on the development and practice of Buddhism in East Asia, and the religious traditions of Japan.
