Celeste McNamara

Visiting Assistant Professor of History


Celeste McNamara, Visiting Assistant Professor of History,  received a B.A. in 2007 from William & Mary and an M.A. and Ph.D. from Northwestern University in 2008 and 2013, respectively.  She is interested in the intersection between religion and culture in the early modern period.  Her current research focuses on the reform of the Catholic Church in Italy in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries and on the effects those changes had on the lives of ordinary early modern people.  Her teaching interests include courses on Western Civilization, the Renaissance, reformations of religion, heresy and Inquisition, early modern Italy, the Catholic Church, and the spread of Christianity and European culture.
