Huang-wen Lai, Visiting Assistant Professor of Japanese Studies, received his Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania in 2016 and his M.A. from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. He earned his B.A. and an M.A. from Fu-Jen Catholic University, Taiwan. He has taught at the University of Pennsylvania, the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, and the University of Massachusetts Amherst. His current research examines in-betweenness in Japanese colonial literature and culture. He is also researching cinematic adaptations, and social, political, and literary transformations in East Asia from the 1930s to the present.
