Calvin Hui

Assistant Professor of Chinese Studies


Calvin Hui, Assistant Professor of Chinese Studies, received his Ph.D. in literature from Duke University after completing his dissertation, The People’s Republic of Capitalism: The Making of the New Middle Class in Post-Socialist China, 1978-Present.  His research focuses on modern Chinese humanities, critical theory and cultural studies, with an emphasis on Marxist theory, gender and sexuality studies, and postcolonial and ethnic studies.  He will teach a selection of courses, including Introduction to Chinese Cultural Studies, Introduction to Chinese Cinema, and an advanced seminar in Chinese language, culture or literature.
