Background
Rodney Benedito Ferrão, Assistant Professor of English and Asian and Pacific Islander American Studies, obtained his Ph.D. at Birkbeck College, University of London. After serving as a lecturer at the Birla Institute of Technology and Science in Goa, he held a research fellowship at La Trobe University, in Melbourne. He joined the W&M faculty in 2014 as a Mellon Faculty Fellow in Asian and Middle Eastern Studies, and then as a Visiting Assistant Professor in 2016. His research explores Afro-Asiatic connections between Portuguese and British post/coloniality, as well as diaspora and transnational fiction with a focus on race, gender, and sexuality. He will teach courses on transnational Asian-American literature, the interpretation of literature, and an introduction to Asian and Pacific Islander American studies.
