Health Alerts
The College has received 3000 doses of the H1N1 vaccine. The majority of these doses will be provided to students first in accordance with CDC guidelines. However, we have set aside 500 doses for faculty and staff in the CDC high risk category. The high risk category includes health care providers, pregnant women and those with underlying medical conditions including respiratory and immune conditions.
For Students
The Student Health Center has received a second allocation of H1N1 vaccine and will begin providing vaccine to all students. A special student clinic will be held Wednesday, November 18 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the Chesapeake Room at the Sadler Center. To operate the clinic as efficiently as possible, 10-12 of our nurses and doctors will be available there to provide vaccinations. This re-deployment of Health Center staff will leave a limited number of providers at the Student Health Center on Wednesday. Students with non-urgent medical needs are encouraged to wait and seek care on Thursday or Friday when the full complement of doctors and nurses are back on site.
A limited H1N1 vaccine clinic (staffed with only 4 healthcare providers) will be held at the Student Health Center on Tuesday night, November 17 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. This shorter clinic is an effort to accomodate students who will be unable to attend Wednesday's large-scale vaccination clinic. Please know that these are the first of several clinics to be held on campus. It is our goal to vaccinate all who wish to receive the vaccine and to do so as quickly as supplies arrive on campus.
For Faculty and Staff
The Student Health Clinic will remain open Thursday, November 19 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm to inoculate faculty and staff in the CDC high risk category. No appointment is necessary. You may just go to the center to receive the vaccine. There is no cost to employees.
The College will hold an H1N1 flu shot clinic, Friday, November 20 from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm in Trinkle Hall. The clinic is open to all faculty and staff on a first come first served basis who wish to receive the vaccine. No appointment is necessary.
The state provides the vaccine for those who live and work on campus. Family members of faculty and staff should receive the vaccine from their family physican.
Thank you for your patience and please continue to use preventative measures to avoid the flu. We will continue to update the website with the best information at hand. Stay well and take care of each other.
