Join a Committee
Hillel's membership is expanding rapidly - just a few short years ago, the Executive Board positions gave opportunities to everyone who wanted to be an active member. To deal with the growth in membership and grant opportunities for involvement to larger numbers of Jewish students, Hillel has formed three committees: Tzedek Committee (committee chair: Hannah Perry- hrperr@wm.edu), Religious Programming (Tanya Sperling- tssper@wm.edu), and Social/Public Relations (David Gordon- drgord@wm.edu). If any of those interest you, let the committee chairs know you want to take part - we're always looking for more members so we can increase our programming and better serve the Jewish community. If you have an idea for a different committee, let us know and start one! We believe in encouraging initiative and new perspectives on the needs and goals of the Jewish community, and as such welcome new ideas and try to incorporate them into our mission.

Run an event
Hillel's events fall into three main categories: yearly events (such as those designed for religious holidays, the Faculty-Student Dinner, and Parent's Weekend), weekly Shabbat dinners, and ad hoc programming.

Yearly events will show up on our calendar, and we are always on the lookout for new voices to help us add spice to our traditional schedule.
Weekly Shabbat dinners generally feature student-led services and a d'var torah. We are always looking for students who would like to lead services or present a d'var torah, or perhaps even lead a discussion about prevalent Jewish topics. If you have a topic you'd like to explore, contact Religious Affairs Vice President Tanya Sperling (tssper@wm.edu) and let her know. We believe very deeply in exploring all aspects of our Jewish heritage and culture, and welcome new topics and fresh views to our Shabbat table.
The strength and vitality of our ad hoc programming is one of our Hillel's proudest areas. Over the last few years, we've run Israeli Food Night at the Commons Dining Hall, plan a Middle East panel discussion involving the Palestinian and Israeli delegations to the United States for the spring semester, and have run various events for Jewish prospective students. The broad range of our programs is a testament to our joy in celebrating all aspects of Jewish life and in encouraging Jews of all perspectives and walks of life to participate in and educate the community about their favorite aspects of our culture.

Come to Hillel meetings
Just coming to weekly Lunch & Learns with a local Rabbi, to Shabbat dinners and reading 'Hillel Happenings' will go a long way towards keeping you updated on what our Hillel is doing. However, our weekly board meetings are where much of the organization's policy is made and they are open to any interested parties.. Also, there are twice a semester general meetings that usually feature free food and wide-ranging discussion over our nature, goals, and ideals.

Run for Executive Board
Every December, Hillel elects an executive board to serve for the next twelve months. This board diligently commits hours every week to serving the campus Jewish community, and bears much responsibility for the strength of our community as a whole. Make sure you're comfortable with a significant time commitment before you run - the board coordinates much of Hillel's activity, and must work diligently to see that the organization runs smoothly and non-board members are not left out of the decision making process.
